Products installed and operated in Explosive Atmospheres (Hazardous Locations Testing & Certification) are required to  comply with the ATEX Directive, but may also need to comply with other applicable EU Directives, such as the EMC Directive, Low voltage Directive, R&TTE Directive and/or others, depending on the product application.

Products complying with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR) of the ATEX Directive are marked with the “EX” mark. Products classified “Category 1 or 2” must be issued an “EC Type- Examination Certificate” by a Notified Body.  Products classified “Category 3” can be “Self-Declared”.

Products required to comply with the ATEX Directive are evaluated to the EN 60079 series of standards, which have been adopted from the IEC 60079 series of standards. Applicable EN standards may include national deviations for ATEX marking and therefore, additional testing to address the deviations may be needed.
